Sensory Symposium 'A taste of Change'

25 nov 2021

Tijd: 09:00 - 18:00 uur

! Due to the developments regarding COVID, we have decided to postpone the symposium of November 25th to spring 2022. We do not think it is appropriate to meet with the large amount of infections and pressure on healthcare. This is of course a postponement and not a cancellation. Tickets will of course remain valid until the new date, which will be announced asap. There are still a few places available.

Inspiring Sensory symposium at the Food Innovation Academy, Vlaardingen. During this day you can network and hear the latest developments in sensory and consumer research from leading speakers in the field, coming from the Netherlands and abroad.

This year, the theme of the symposium will be: ‘A taste of Change’, highlighting all the changes in Sensory and Consumer Research that we will be dealing with in business nowadays and how this develops in the future.

The day will be chaired by prof. Hans van Trijp (WUR) who will give a concise overview of the 5 pillars for the future: Environment/Covid-19, Big data, New Methods, Texture & Oral Processing, Sustainability. The kick-off is by Keynote speakers Annie Neller and Simon Harris (Nova@MMR based in the UK). Nova is part of MMR, one of the leading market research companies in sensory and product research in the world. She will speak about New Test methods that can be used at home. Two keynote speakers, Dr. John Ennis (Aigora) and Dr. Thierry Worch (FrieslandCampina), discuss opportunities for artificial intelligence and machine learning within sensory and consumer science. In their talks, informed by their day-to-day work, they give an overview of how these new technologies allow us to research in ways not previously possible. The universities of applied Science (HAN, HAS, HvA and Inholland) and the WUR will give an overview of thesis projects by students and young professionals. The program is completed with two parallel sessions in which a total of 8 speakers present their approach or project. The day will be closed by a keynote speech of prof. Kees de Graaf (WUR), who will join us just before his retirement. He will reflect on Sensory and Consumer Research over the past years and he will share his vision for the future of our field.
